Information about the New Zealand Dollar

The New Zealand dollar (NZD) has been the official currency of New Zealand since 1967, when it replaced the New Zealand pound. It is also used in the Cook Islands, Niue, Tokelau, the Ross Dependency and the Pitcairn Islands. Although New Zealand has a relatively small economy, the NZD is one of the world's most actively traded currencies.

Nicknames and Common Expressions

The New Zealand dollar is widely known as the Kiwi dollar or simply the Kiwi, a nickname inspired by New Zealand's national bird, which appears on the one-dollar coin. In financial markets, the abbreviation Kiwi is commonly used to refer to the currency.
