The Canadian dollar (CAD) is the official currency of Canada and one of the world's most traded currencies. It became Canada's official currency in 1858, replacing the pound sterling. Nicknames and Common Expressions
The Canadian dollar is commonly known as the Loonie, a nickname derived from the common loon featured on the one-dollar coin. The two-dollar coin is often called the Toonie. Other informal terms include Buck, while Piastre is still occasionally used in French-speaking Canada.
